Inspiration behind the story: Something is lurking in the mountains of Central America

Like a few of my stories this one was inspired by some strange things I heard of during my time in Central America. My family is in fact from a country in Central America so a lot of my stories actually come from things that they have told me they have seen or experienced. There is an ABUNDANCE of paranormal phenomena that happens in small towns and villages all throughout Central America that is very under reported.

I pieced parts of this story up last year when I went to CA for a funeral. One of my uncles owns a small pig farm in a very isolated village high up in one of the mountains. The trip there takes about two hours from the local town where my family lives in. The "aldea" [small village] has very little electric power and the only way to get up there is through one main dirt road.

During my time there my uncle and his sons [my cousins] told me stories about strange things they would see especially at night. One of my cousins told me about an old man that lived in the village who always told stories about seeing things come out of a nearby volcano. There's a lot of UFO activity around that area and the people tended to stay away form certain paths and areas due to strange sightings.

While I was there I did hear some gossip about people who had "mysteriously" vanished after strange lights appeared in the sky at night. How much of this is actually true I don't know. I'll probably write more tales based off of some of the experiences my own family members have gone through later on. I find some of the best scary stories are those based on a little bit of truth.

This is a picture one of my cousin's took walking one day close to the town, you can tell that the area is very dense so you can imagine all the scary stories that come from this area.

Underground creatures that live in caves or high up in the mountains is a phenomenon that you don't hear much about in pop culture. My take on the Chupacabra is a little different than most just because the fear of this creature is very real in my family. If you talk to a lot of villagers in isolated small towns or cities you may hear a story or two about how they were affected one way or another by strange creatures or something attacking their livestock or crops. I've heard several accounts about the Chupacabra phenomenon happening every so X years. I guess we will have to wait a few more years to see if we start hearing reports again.

You don't have to believe that their is a strange creature lurking around however keep an open mind that there are parts on this planet we have yet to explore (best example is our oceans).

One of the things I really wanted to get at with this story is this: ( I saw this on Pinterest or Tumblr can't remember but thought it was interesting)

What happened, deep in the hidden eras before history began, that could affect the entire human race as to give the entire species a deep, instinctual and lasting fear of pale beings with dark, sunken eyes, razor sharp teeth, and elongated faces?
